Description
Great example of a 1964 Brilliant Uncirculated half dollar.
Kennedy Half Dollars were a direct result of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Discussion of creating these 90% Silver Half Dollars occurred within hours of the assassination, and Congress authorised the production of the Silver coins shortly thereafter. Due to quick authorisation, the design of the Silver coins was based on a preexisting Kennedy portrait sculptor Gilroy Roberts made for the U.S. Mint’s Presidential medal series. The reverse of this Silver bullion is a modified version of the presidential seal created by then-U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro.
